Baroque and Blue got its start during the pandemic, rehearsing masked and outdoors, in preparation for a July 2020 Downtown Ventura gig that ultimately got canceled with just a few hours’ notice. Since then, the group has played at venues in Santa Barbara and Ventura, with a focus on the jazz-infused works of Claude Bolling and Nikolai Kapustin.
All but our drummer are original, longtime members of Channel Islands Chamber Orchestra. It has been a joy and a challenge to stretch ourselves beyond our classical training to play this music that is a mix of classical and jazz, notated and improvised, structured and sultry, romantic and quirky.
We are: Randall Jones, trumpet; Mariana Smith, flute; Miriam Arichea, piano; Joshua Jones, drums; and Hal Onserud, bass.
