February 14 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Valentine’s Day ballads, love songs, and standards with Vocalist, Erich Harrington and Friends
Erich Harrington’s complex musical journey spans over forty years. After fronting Portland rock bands in his teens, he came to Los Angeles in the ‘80s where he collaborated on proto-electronica, a unique fusion of rock and jazz using computer instruments and sequencing.
Yet at his core, Erich was always a vocal artist and by the mid-1990s, he returned to his roots in honing his interpretation of the great jazz standards. “In the late 60’s when the other kids were listening to Beatles records, I was soaking up my moms Joe Williams and Nat Cole records,” says Erich. After a few years of sitting in with many of his old musician friends who were by then accomplished artists around the L.A. area, Eric began performing Jazz shows of his own, starting with the fledgling Squashed Grapes in Ventura and other clubs in L.A. and Santa Barbara.
“I don’t consider myself a Jazz singer in the classic sense. I’m a torch singer, a balladeer. I love the great melodies! But I also am a huge fan of the more modern Jazz singers such as Kurt Elling and Jamie Cullum, and I’m excited to include a number of their great arrangements in my show.”
With live performances halted during the pandemic, and struggling with a cancer diagnosis, Erich resolved to cross off the #1 item on his bucket list: to make a professional recording of the 30-odd years of pop, R&B and rock songs he’d written. “It was important to me to make something I could leave behind, that represented a synthesis of my musical and life journey.”
The result is the album “MORE”, co-produced by award-winning multi-instrumentalist Vito Gregoli, released in October 2022 to critical acclaim And as a bonus, Erich’s cancer was also pronounced fully cured. “Honestly, I never would have finished that record if it wasn’t for the cancer. It was the gift I found through the ordeal. And now that I am starting to feel like myself again, I’m ready to return to my first love–namely singing Jazz!”
